First-Line Supervisor of Production Workers
O*NET-SOC: 51-1011.00
Directly supervises and coordinates the activities of production and operating workers in manufacturing, managing workflow, quality, safety, and personnel on the production floor.
About this Role
First-line supervisors of production workers manage the day-to-day operations on a manufacturing floor. They start each shift by reviewing production reports from the previous crew, checking machine status, and assigning tasks to assemblers, machine operators, and other production staff. Throughout the day, they walk the floor to monitor output quality, pull product samples for inspection, and make judgment calls about whether to stop a line for equipment adjustments or reassign workers to keep production on schedule. When a machine breaks down or a worker calls in sick, they coordinate quickly with maintenance teams and adjust staffing to minimize downtime.
